POSITION SUMMARY:

Current Opening: One full-time position (40 hours per week with some on-call shifts required).

Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Cardiopulmonary Services, and in compliance with Federal, State regulations, and Powell Valley Healthcare (PVHC) policy and procedure, the Respiratory Therapist will provide respiratory therapy services, electrocardiograms (ECG), cardiac stress testing, holter monitoring, event monitoring, cardiac rehabilitation, pulmonary rehabilitation, clinical respiratory home service, tobacco cessation, pulmonary function testing (PFT) on a 24 hour basis, 365 days a year.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform inpatient and outpatient electrocardiograms (ECG), halter monitoring, cardiac stress testing, Pulmonary Function Test (PFT), ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, tobacco counseling and overnight oximetry
  • Instruct and monitor cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation patients during exercise sessions and provide complete and accurate documentation
  • Perform routine daily respiratory therapy treatments as ordered by the physician and provide complete and accurate documentation.
  • Evaluate cardiopulmonary patients and make appropriate recommendations to physicians
  • Perform oxygen rounds to evaluate physicians order, oxygen saturation, liter flow, assure proper usage/equipment and provide complete and accurate documentation
  • Provide airway and ventilator management to emergency/critical care patients
  • Maintain appropriate levels of equipment and supplies for the department including O2 tanks
  • Disassemble, clean, disinfect, reassemble and bag equipment as needed
  • Complete daily charges for patients receiving therapy or services and complete corrections within four days
  • Respond to all cardiopulmonary assistance, code blue, emergency room and disaster calls via the overhead paging system, telephone or cell phone

KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Associate’s degree or 2-year degree program
  • 2 to 4 years of recent clinical experience
  • Must be a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) who is RRT eligible with an active Wyoming license
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP for Healthcare Provider.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Read, analyze and interpret information
  • Respond to common inquiries or complaints from patients
  • Add and subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to perform respiratory therapy specific calculations
  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
  • Modify care based on the developmental/functional age of the patient as well as that of the patient’s ethnic background
  • Work independently and as part of a team
  • Maintain confidential information
  • Good customer service and interpersonal skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Regularly lifting or move objects weighing 10 to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • Reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, stooping, bending, crouching, walking, standing, and working with equipment.
  • Subject to inside and possibly outside weather conditions.
  • The employee is also subject to exposure to blood and body fluids, proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical shock, exposure to burns and radiant energy, exposure to explosives, exposure to toxic chemicals and biological agents.
