POSITION SUMMARY:

Current Opening: One PRN position (various shifts as needed by department).

Activity participate in the holistic care of the resident.  Performs routine patient/resident care activities for the Powell Valley Healthcare patients/residents to promote comfort, maintain their functional ability and contribute to their overall patient/resident care program.  Actively interact with residents and participate in a resident oriented service and environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Encourage socialization among residents.
  • Practice safety in working around and with equipment, chemicals, tools and utensils.
  • Assist in keeping the environment safe for residents.
  • Follow the resident service plan in providing services to residents.
  • Encourage and remind residents to participate in activities.
  • Safely deliver medications to residents under the guidance of the Heartland RN.
  • Actively participate in and promote activities to pique residents’ interest.
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, eating, toileting, hygiene and mobility in accordance with policy, state regulations and resident personal service plan.
  • Contribute information to the Heartland RN to assist in the development and revision of each resident’s assistance plan.
  • Clean residents’ apartments on assigned days and as outlined in the resident service plan.  Encourage residents to participate in the cleaning process as desired by each resident.
  • Complete personal laundry for residents according to the resident service plan and based on determined care level.  Encourage and allow residents independence with personal laundry as desired by each resident.
  • Strip and make residents’ beds weekly:  launder residents’ linens and towels, fold and return them to residents.
  • Complete overall facility cleaning tasks according to policy.  Help ensure that the facility remains exceptionally clean and in good repair.
  • Provide safe transportation to residents as needed.  Escort resident to/from vehicle as needed.
  • Actively participate in discussions to improve the overall well-bring of the residents and the Heartland Community.
  • Assist in preparing meals, serving meals, table set-up, bussing tables during breakfast, lunch (mid-day meal) and supper (evening meal).
  • Maintain all assigned logs.  Document care in resident chart according to Heartland Policy and/or Protocol.
  • Respond to resident emergencies; provide first-aid assistance per protocol and/or RN guidance and arrange for appropriate medical attention/follow-up if needed such as calling RN or 911. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Current CNA certificate granted by the state of Wyoming.
  • BLS for Healthcare Provider

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole number, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to understand the basic metric system.
  • Work with residents with varying levels of dementia or confusion
  • Critical thinking skills, including the ability to work independently, evaluate a situation and report findings to RN and/or Director. 
  • Read and comprehend simple instructions and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence
  • Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
  • Ability to maintain composure, objectivity and professionalism while working in an environment of constant interruption.
  • Speak and document clearly and concisely.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with members of the Health Care Team.
  • Solve practical problems and work under the direction of the licensed nursing staff.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Regularly lifting or move objects weighing 10 to 50 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • Reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, stooping, bending, crouching, walking, standing, and working with equipment.
  • Subject to inside and possibly outside weather conditions.
  • The employee is also subject to exposure to blood and body fluids, proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical shock, exposure to burns and radiant energy, exposure to explosives, exposure to toxic chemicals and biological agents.
