POSITION SUMMARY:
Current opening: One full-time position, on-call required (8:00am – 4:30pm)
Emergency Services Manager reports to and assists the Emergency Services Director in the provision of quality patient care for the department and utilizes assertive/communication skills in collaboration and problem solving, especially in the absence of the Emergency Services Director. Supervises and guides nursing and EMS staff. The Manager will assist in EMS and the ED as needed. Additionally, the Manager may be expected work as an EMT provider on the ambulance if needed and coordinates the ambulance services. Helps to maintain the standards of the department. Works in collaboration with all members of the healthcare team, as well as with the patients, families and visitors. They will also take on additional responsibilities for areas which include but are not limited to; act as a resource in situations requiring independent judgement, provide guidance, direction and constructive suggestions to other staff members as appropriate, assist with orientation of new employees, and participate on committees as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Manages and has oversight of the day-to-day operations of EMS
- Recognizes barriers to effective communication. Actively seeks resolution of communication problems. Demonstrates problem-solving skills.
- Recognizes conflict situations in early stages and utilize conflict management to resolve with assistance from Director as needed.
- Guides staff in developing a systematic and effective approach in carrying out assignments, which maximizes time and resources to utilize, time efficiently and effectively.
- Identifies causes of dissatisfaction and assists in the problem solving. Informs Director as appropriate.
- Makes recommendations for changes and assists in the change management process.
- Assists to identify department in-services needs
- Makes assignments for shifts with staff’s educational and experience considered.
- Delegates duties to staff according to experience and education.
- Addresses any patient complaints, using appropriate staff/ancillary staff to assist in resolution.
- Assist the Director in performing staff evaluations and discussions and other evaluations as needed.
- Responsible for Ambulance Fleet maintenance and assures safe driving of the ambulances through the use of CEVO. Assures annual driving competency
- Oversees EMS education and training.
- Works closely with the EMS Medical Director to assure compliance with State and Federal regulations and PVHC policy.
- Responsible for the scheduling of EMS staff members.
- Completes and assures timely and accurate payroll.
- Responsible for the Departments in the absence of the Director.
- Hire, fire and disciplinary authority in collaboration with the Emergency Services Director.
- Drives quality and process improvement initiatives for EMS and serves as a change agent for improvements.
- Assures competent and non-judgmental care for all patients in the pre-hospital setting as well as in the hospital setting.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- A strong background in Emergency Medical Services.
- ACLS, PALS, BLS and PHTLS certifications required within 3 months
- Maintain a current EMT-I or Paramedic License.
- Effectively use the Electronic Healthcare Record and State EMS Reporting System.

- Modify care based on the developmental/functional age of the patient.
