POSITION SUMMARY:
Current opening: One full-time position, on-call required
Under the direction and supervision of the Chief Nursing Officer, and in compliance with Federal, State regulations, and Powell Valley Healthcare (PVHC) policy and procedure, the Inpatient Services Director manages the Inpatient Services Department to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of patient care. Management includes scheduling and staffing, budget oversight, staff payroll, developing and maintaining quality improvement program; staff education and development to ensure patient safety, and that policy and procedures for best practices are followed. Accomplishes assigned responsibilities in an organized and efficient manner. Serves as the resource person for the partner Department, Physician, patients, families and visitors. Demonstrates flexibility and adapts to changes caused by emergencies, schedule or staffing adjustments, procedural changes, or patient care needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assesses the delivery of nursing care to include identification of the number and job class of personnel needed to provide patient care. Adjusts staffing and patient assignments appropriately
- Interviews hires, and trains employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
- Works directly with new employees to see that the assigned orientation plan is followed
- Completes employee evaluations in a timely manner
- Provides ongoing development for front line managerial staff
- Provides direct patient care as needed for shift coverage, using the nursing process.
- Maintains and develops competencies in all acute care Inpatient Services areas to act as a resource to staff, physicians and other members of the caregiver team.
- Participates in the development of an overall annual budget for units of responsibility. Responsible for inventory and budget control needs of the units on a daily basis to include management of productive and non-productive FTE’s
- Corroborates with H.I.M to ensure appropriate documentation to support patient charges.
- Ensures Payroll is completed in a timely manner.
- Oversees and approves replacement of equipment as needed.
- Utilizes effective communication skills in promoting optimal interpersonal relationships.
- Conducts staff meetings on a routine basis, at least every 2 months, and maintains minutes of same.
- Works closely with the CNO.
- Attends all management meetings as requested.
- Collaborates with colleagues for shared staffing, payroll, personnel and QI issues
- Mentors staff to Inpatient Services.
- Collaborates with Nursing Educators to ensure optimum experience for nursing students training and being presented on Inpatient Services.
- Acts as a change agent by identifying areas in need of change, establishing, and implementing a positive and proactive approach to systematic change.
- Develops and maintains an interdisciplinary continuous quality improvement program (CQI) for units of responsibility. Responsible for monitoring, documenting and improving the Nursing Process utilizing CQI principles
- Evaluates nursing practice and environment in contributing to the development of standards that assure quality patient care. Revises policies and procedures for the units of responsibility, assuring they are in compliance with State/Federal regulations, and CMS.
- Actively participates in Nursing/Organizational committees as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred.
- Minimum 3-5 years nursing experience in leadership role.
- RN license in the State of Wyoming, ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications required
- Microsoft Office experience
